Every Discovery Tells Part of Our Story
Murray Grove has welcomed generations of visitors who came here to worship, learn, gather, camp, celebrate, and build community. Over the years, objects left behind have become small but meaningful pieces of that larger history.
As work continues across the property, these artifacts offer unexpected glimpses into everyday life at Murray Grove throughout the decades.
Unearthed by Mike Parker
Many of these objects have been discovered by Murray Grove staff member and handyman Mike Parker. Through his years of caring for the buildings and grounds, Mike has uncovered numerous artifacts—and he continues to find more. His discoveries are helping us preserve and share pieces of Murray Grove history that might otherwise have remained hidden.

Leaded Motor Fuel Warning Sign
This weathered metal sign warned that a container was intended for motor fuel and contained lead, or tetraethyl. It is a reminder of an earlier era of transportation, equipment, and property maintenance at Murray Grove.
1915 New Jersey License Plate
A green New Jersey plate numbered 5372 and dated 1915. Its age, rust, and surviving hardware offer a tangible connection to the vehicles and visitors that passed through Murray Grove more than a century ago.
1936 Motor Fuel Retail Dealer Plate
This distinctive 1936 New Jersey plate is marked “M.F. Retail Dealer.” Its connection to the leaded-fuel warning sign provides another intriguing clue about how fuel may once have been stored or distributed on the property.
