Creating Peacemakers: Art with Impact – April 15, 2023

Artist, ambassador, filmmaker, architect and author Ibiyinka Alao believes storytelling is a powerful tool that can unite people across the globe. He uses his artistry and experiences growing up in Nigeria to teach how we can achieve healing and reparative justice through Art. His work focuses on redemption, peace and love.

Ibiyinka’s art won first place in a United Nations International Art Competition with entrants from 61 countries.

Our Spring En Plein Air – Art with Impact event will be led by Artist Ibiyinka Olufemi Alao, 1st place winner of the United Nations International Art Competition, Nigeria’s Arts Ambassador to the United Nations

Please join us to create Art with Impact, at Murray Grove this Spring. First place winner of the prestigious United Nations International Art Competition and Art Ambassador Ibiyinka Olufemi Alao will share some of his experiences and how art can change our lives and community positively. In 2016, along with John Lennon, Global Citizens magazine named Ibi one of the “5 Artists Who Have Spread Messages of Peace Around the World.”

Ibi’s grounding presentation “Creating Peacemakers through Art” highlights the uses of art for healing and reparative justice, and ready participants for a hands-on art experience. Guests are welcome to bring beverages and snacks to enjoy during the workshop.  A gallery viewing of Ibiyinka’s award-winning Fireflies Illumination Artwork will be on display in the Cone House throughout the evening.

Ibi says “As Art Ambassadors, how do we use our talents as a river to water human hearts so that we may grow to know peace.  Storytelling is a magical way to share and weave our diverse cultures together in the United States. Hope to see you there!”

Through the Artworks and accompanying lightshow, we’ll examine how a simple childhood story about catching fireflies at night in Africa shows us the true meaning of love, and helps us understand the values needed to build a healthy community.

This program is made possible in part by a grant administered by the Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission from funds granted by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
